A new beginning takes guts. 

It necessitates a willingness to wipe the slate clean, raze all expectations, and revisit ground zero once again. Hollywood Undead bravely and boldly do so on their 2020 sixth full-length studio album, New Empire, Vol. 1 [Dove & Grenade Media/BMG]. The platinum-certified Los Angeles quintet—Johnny 3 Tears, J-Dog, Funny Man, Charlie Scene, and Danny—expand not just the cult, but the “culture” they created. As such, the musicians sharpen their signature hybrid of rock, hip-hop, industrial, and alternative to knifepoint precision on these nine tracks. 

The album start off with “Time Bomb” hitting with scramming guitars and pounding beats that hook you in from the get go, and had your head bobbing up and down. This track is a great start to the a new begging and makes you want to listen to more!

“Already dead” is the next next bomb ass track that the band released first and get great feedback from all..This track hits hard and often. Offset by eerie John Carpenter-style keys, a trudging groove gives way to a sweeping refrain from Danny, “You can’t kill me ‘cause I’m already dead.” it is sure to be a huge hit in the live shows.

“Upside Down” conjures fiery funk vibes through a prism of distortion and danger uplifted by a scorching vocal cameo from Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens. This song is one of my favorite for many reason..give it a listen to and maybe it will be yours as well.

It all comes down to “Nightmare.” This dark finale highlights verbal acrobatics on heart wrenching confessions—“Not some fucking addict who can’t dream cuz his habits are chopped up on a table till he screams, ‘Let me have it’”—before a haunting hook, “Every dream turns out to be, part of my nightmare.” ..one hell of a song to end an album that the guys should be really proud of…This new beginning is just that..The beginning of one hell of a year for Hollywood Undead and im sure many more to come!

Now, they usher in the next era of musical madness and mayhem like only they can…

the group tackled New Empire from a different angle altogether. For the first time in their career, the guys enlisted the talents of one lone producer Matt Good [Sleeping With Sirens, Asking Alexandria] to oversee the entire process. Additionally, recording took place in two chunks amidst a marathon of international touring. Working in December 2018 and August 2019, they afforded themselves more time than ever. Additionally, Hollywood Undead split a total of 18 tracks into Vol. 1 out February 14, 2020 and Vol. 2—coming soon after.
