Concert Alert !! BOB WEIR & RATDOG WITH THE CHRIS ROBINSON BROTHERHOOD TO PERFORM ST. AUGUSTINE AMPHITHEATRE SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, 2014
St. Augustine, FL (May 12, 2014) – Bob Weir & Ratdog with The Chris Robinson Brotherhood will perform at the St.
Augustine Amphitheatre Sunday, August 24. Tickets go on sale for this show on Friday, May 16 at 10AM.
A founding member of the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir’s musical legacy will be of an utterly strange rhythm guitar player and
songwriter who grew up in one of the most lasting outside bands of the 1960s. Weir developed his odd rhythm style playing
between the sweet, articulated lead guitar of Jerry Garcia and the avant-garde bass lines of Phil Lesh, who joined the Dead as a
newcomer to his instrument after studying trumpet and serial music with composer Luciano Berio at Mills College in the early
’60s. The Dead’s sound, a psychedelic hybrid of genres, was developed through endless improvisation. Weir’s role as a rhythm
player was to give force and color to the developing music. Like a jazz guitarist, Weir was often not evident in the mix, but still
a profound shape on the sound. RatDog, originally RatDog Revue, was formed in 1995 by Grateful Dead singer/guitarist Bob
Weir; bass player Rob Wasserman, who had been accompanying Weir on his solo performances for some time; guitarist and
harmonica player Matt Kelly, who had been a member of Kingfish with Weir as early as 1974; and drummer Jay Lane.
Chris Robinson Brotherhood began as an experiment but became a ‘band’ during their California residency tour. The original
intention, according to Robinson, was to “have a local L.A. band, just play in California, see where the music takes us, and have
a good time”. They then embarked on an 118 date North American tour in 2011. Robinson names Grateful Dead members Phil
Lesh and Bob Weir, who sat in with the band during CRB’s run at the Great American Music Hall, as both musical inspirations
and friends. As well as Robinson, the band features fellow Black Crowes member Adam MacDougall, Ryan Adams collaborator
Neal Casal, bassist Mark Dutton, and drummer George Sluppick. Robinson describes the Brotherhood as a “farm-to-table
psychedelic band”.
