Abby K is back and defining herself to say it is MY time. I am taking control and you will hear me! “Pay Attention” is a rock anthem delivered to the proverbial board of trustees as if to say- “I know what I want, I know what I am doing, NOW listen because I have the rock and I need to roll. Nothing you say or do is taking me off my drive!” Clearly, Abby K is making her statement and it is time for the music insiders to “Pay Attention”!
- Tell us a little bit about the band and how long you have been together for some of our readers that may not know about the band?
Abby K: This version of Abby K has been around for only a few months! I tried to run a hired gun system for Abby K for about two years before we made the change. I have never been so confident in my decision of adding Diego Vargas and Crispy Borell to the team!
- What got you into music and what keeps you going night after night playing?
Abby: We just got back from our first tour. We had 5 shows in a week and it was so incredible! One night we only got three hours of sleep and had a 6 hour drive ahead of us. The morning of the drive, we were so exhausted and not looking forward to the show, but as soon as we got to the venue, it’s like a switch is flipped and we go into full on rocker mode.
Crispy Borell: I’ve loved performing my whole life, and my family loves rock music, so it was just a natural fit for me to become a rock musician. I think my undying love for the guitar as an instrument as well as my drive to help keep rock music alive is what keeps me going.
- So, what is new with the band?..New Album out? New Videos?
Abby: We are just now beginning to work on our first album and we will follow the release of it with a US tour hopefully next spring.
- If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing right now?
Abby: I have always dreamed of being a pilot or an astronaut, but unfortunately, I don’t meet the height requirements, haha!
Crispy: Probably crying. Lol. Nah, I’d probably be a music producer.
- What is the weirdest or funniest question you have ever been asked?
Crispy: I have been asked about my experiences playing in a band that I was never in, so that was pretty weird.
- If you can have your fans remember you for one thing, what would that be?
Abby: We’re here for one thing, and one thing only. We want to bring rock and roll back.
- On a scale of one to 2593, How good is your new single compared to your last single? (my attempt at humor, but please still answer)
Abby: Definitely 2,593! Each and every single keeps getting better and better. We are young, we are new to a lot of things in this business, so we just keep learning and absorbing new skills along the way.
- What do you feel is the best song you have released to date and why?
Abby: Our best song has not been released yet, but it will be this fall! I think the most meaningful and special song we have released is Pay Attention.
- Do you think you can get any better as a musician/singer? And if so, How would you achieve that?
Abby: You can always improve! Nobody is perfect. I try to learn something new every single day.
Crispy: I say there’s always room for improvement. The beautiful thing about music is that you can never know EVERYTHING. You always can find something new to learn, and in a way I think that’s part of what drew me to music in the first place.
- If you could give your fans one random fact about you that you think they should (or should “not” know) about you what would that be?
Abby: Sometimes I eat pickles straight out of the jar and drink the juice with a straw. And yes… my mouth did just water thinking about that.
Crispy: My girlfriend’s dad asked me if I could properly use a drill. I said yes. I broke the wall. I broke the drill.
- You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Abby: The Abby K Purple!!! I don’t believe they have that color Crayon yet.
- Who are you inspired by?
Abby: I’m heavily inspired by Nita Strauss, Halestorm, Iron Maiden, and Lita Ford.
Crispy: Ben Weinman, Zakk Wylde, and of course Diego and Abby!
- What’s an average day like for you?
Abby: I wake up around 8:00, go to work, come home, and rock.
- Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans?
Abby: I try to talk to everyone as much as possible. I am so appreciative of anyone that will give me and my music the time of day, and it is my job to reciprocate that.
Crispy: I try to reply to every message I get on my Instagram no matter who it’s from. I know how excited I still get when I receive a message back from my favorite musicians, and I would love to pass that feeling on to even one other person.
- Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?
Crispy: Absolutely. But I get anxious going to the grocery store too, so idk. Lol
- Tell me about your favorite performance venues?
Abby: Last week we played at Dingbatz in NJ and it was so cool! There are many legends that have played at Dingbatz so it was awesome to get to play there ourselves!
- What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Crispy: Keep going no matter how hard it gets. You will have setbacks, you will have points where you feel like a failure. Just push through and eventually you’ll get where you want to go.
Without a doubt, Abby K is a strong female-fronted hard rock/metal band continuing to blaze the trail like Lzzy Hale, Lita Ford, and other great female rockers have!
‘”Pay Attention” is the ultimate “I’m here, now LISTEN” song! It is catchy while also being a hard-hitting rock song that you can’t help but bang your head to. Powerful hooks and shredding guitar solos belong in rock music and we’re bringing them back! We want to show the world that we’re here to stay and we won’t stop until we reach the top. So you’d better pay attention!”‘
Abby K is a bassist, vocalist, and songwriter from Charlotte, North Carolina. She picked up the bass at age 13 after being influenced by Gene Simmons at a KISS Concert. Months into her musical journey, she was 1 of 3 bassists in the United States selected to attend GRAMMY Camp in Los Angeles, CA. Abby was soon later invited by the producers of America’s Got Talent to audition for the show. She claims that her proudest moment was when Nita Strauss joined her onstage to perform Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper”. Since then, she has developed her own style of musicianship which is commonly described as the love child of Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) and Lita Ford.
In the spring of 2021, Abby K became an independent artist and announced that Crispy Borell and Diego Vargas will be joining the band as co-lead guitarists. Recently, the new lineup released the title track of their upcoming album, “Pay Attention” as a single.
