Recently Kip has enjoyed success composing classical music. Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon created the ballet Ghosts, based on a piece he wrote, which premiered at the San Francisco Ballet on February 9, 2010. Ghosts will make its Nashville, TN debut in May 2018 with the talented Nashville Ballet.
Kip then composed a four-part work entitled Conversations with Nijinsky, intended to celebrate the life of ballet dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky. A recording of the piece being performed by the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra was included on the album. The album entered at number one on the traditional classical category on the Billboard music charts. Conversations with Nijinsky was also nominated in the Best Classical Contemporary Composition category at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. Being a very busy artist, Mr. Winger also recently finished a two act musical, GET JACK, which is currently in development in New York City.
Charles Frederick Kip Winger, lest we forget, first had success on a song for Kix’s third album, Midnite Dynamite, he co-wrote in 1984. The next year in 1985, Winger joined Alice Cooper’s band. After making two albums with Cooper, Winger left in March 1987 to focus on his own band. The band Winger released three albums Winger in 1988, In the Heart of the Young in 1990, and Pull in 1993 before the band members moved on to solo careers befor eventually reforming. Winger released their sixth studio album titled, Better Days Comin’ in April 2014, after teasers were published by Kip on social media.
If you’re a fan of the band, the man, or anything else Winger related, let us know you score one of these limited sets. We’d like to “borrow” it. If you’ve seen any of the incarnations that Kip plays in lately, we’d love to hear or see the photos of it on our Facebook or Twitter feeds!
