Interview~ ‘Alborn’..NEW MUSIC OUT NOW!! EP Impairative! Check out what the band has to say!

“ALBORN RULES!” is a common war cry heard at any Midwestern Alborn show. The band’s fanbase is strong, travels relentlessly and grows with every performance.

Alternative metal band, ALBORN, have signed a distribution deal with Imagen Records (ADA, Warner Music). Their debut EP Impairative will release on August 28, 2020.

“When the opportunity opened up for me to sign Alborn to Imagen, I jumped on it. I’ve known these guys for years and have worked closely with them. The songwriting is so unique to me. It’s fresh and not predictable. I think people will get so much out of what this band has to say,” says Imagen Records’ A&R Representative Morgan Rose.

We had the opportunity to ask the bad a few questions and they obliged us with the following answers.

  1. Tell us a little bit about the band and how long you have been together for some of our readers that may not know about the band?

Alex – Alternative metal band based out of the Quad City area (IL/IA), the band originally formed in late 2015 but has been running the current lineup since 2019.

  1. What got you into music and what keeps you going night after night playing?

Alex – For most of us, it was growing up around musicians. Whether it be family or friends, we’ve been around live music for the majority of our lives. We all thoroughly enjoy being on stage with each other and interacting with our fans through our music and everything that surrounds it, so the more established we become, the more eager we are to play shows.

  1. So, what is new with the band?..New Album out? New Videos?
Alex – We have a 5 song EP titled ‘Impair][ative’ coming out Friday, August 28th!
  1. If you didn’t become a musician, what would you  be doing right now?

Justin- I work on older vehicles any time the band isn’t busy, so I’m sure I’d be doing that full time.Alex – Would probably be trying to build a career in welding/pipefitting or a similar trade.Zame – I would probably be seeking education in some kind of trade myself or learning graphic design (something I’ve always had an interest in doing for fun or on the side)Nate – Before I started playing music I switched around majors 4 times in college. I don’t have the faintest idea what I would be doing

  1. What is the weirdest or funniest question you have ever been asked?

Justin- I was once asked at a show if it was going to snow afterwards. It was summer time and I later realized they were not talking about the weather.Alex – Honestly, the answer varies all the time. With as many people as we meet, we’ve been asked tons of unique questions that often stumble us haha.Nate – If my band was into “exotic” things

  1. If you can have your fans remember you for one thing, what would that be?
Alex – Our live show is what we take the most pride in, we aim to make all of our sets a memorable one!
Nate – Making a difference in their life somehow through music
  2. On a scale of one to 2593, How good is your new single compared to your last single? (my attempt at humor, but please still answer)
Alex – 10,000! We aim to improve as much as possible with every piece of material we release.
  3. What do you feel is the best song you have released to date and why?

Alex – Waves. That one always seems to get a super intense reaction from the crowd and that’s my favorite thing to see when we are playing out.

Zame – To me our song “Prime” serves as a sort of staple to the Alborn sound. It was the very first tune that was written of this group of songs and that song really seemed to capture the punchy and aggressive yet melodic direction we were after and when it was finished it became clearer what kind of band we wanted to be.

Nate – Full Circle. There is a huge explosion of emotion at the end of the tune.

  1. Do you think you can get any better as a musician/singer? And if so, How would you achieve that?

Justin- that’s unachievable, you will never stop progressing at anything you do if you continue to do it. Alex – If you think you’ve EVER reached your maximum potential as a musician, you’re wrong. Every one of us is always improving on our skills. Practice practice practice.

  1. If you could give your fans one random fact about you that you think they should (or should “not” know) about you what would that be?

Justin- I’m not a fan of large crowds lol I love hanging with the Alborn crew but struggle at big indoor shows.Alex – I’m almost never not listening to music. Always striving to find something new to fit in my catalog!Zame – I consider Paramore’s whole discography as one of my many guilty pleasuresNate – I played basketball from the time I was 5 until I was 18. Traveled around almost every summer when I got old enough to various AAU tournaments.

  1. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Alex – Blue. It was always the first color I picked as a wee lad. Sky? Blue. Grass? Blue. Everything is blue.
Justin- hmm.. I suppose White because it can cover up the mistakes that the other colors made lol
Nate – Salmon. Definitely my favorite food

  1. Who are you inspired by?

Alex – Morgan Rose is one of the most entertaining Drummer/Vocalist combos ever to watch do his thing.Zame – Without a doubt, my #1 inspiration is Flea of RHCP. The guy is a monster when it comes to stage presence and musical ability and always gives 200%Nate – My sister & her work ethic

  1. What’s an average day like for you?

Alex – We all got full time jobs so it’s your average 9-5 grind. Auto Parts for me specifically.
Nate – I drive freakishly fast all day for Jimmy John’s

  1. Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans?

Justin – I like to find out why they were able to connect with our music or performance, and then build that connection. We will usually dive into a conversation with people at shows that may not even have anything to do with music.Alex – On stage, always making eye contact with people and watching them as much as they are watching us.

  1. Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?

Zame – I did when I first started playing live shows but the only way to get over that is by performing more and more. After a while of playing in front of a crowd it starts to feel natural and welcoming to be on stage

  1. Tell me about your favorite performance venues?

Zame – Earlier this year (pre COVID) we played a show with Buck Cherry and Adelitas Way at the Rust Belt in Moline, IL and that venue has a killer setup. The Rust Belt is a giant old warehouse that was repurposed as a concert venue in the last couple years so it definitely has a cool “rustic” vibe to it. It also has some of the best sound/acoustics I’ve ever heard.

  1. What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Justin- Find a way to earn income, because the music industry isn’t going to do that for you for a long, long time.
Nate – Write music for yourself that speaks your thoughts & you will find others that feel the same

In August 2020, the plans are no longer on hold. The band inked a distribution deal with Imagen Records (ADA, Warner Music) and are releasing their debut EP, Impairative on August 28th. The EP contains 5 songs: 4 originals and one killer cover of Alice In Chains’ “We Die Young.” This is just the start for Alborn. It’s a matter of time before Covid 19 passes and you hear the war cry “ALBORN RULES!”at a live show near you.
