Irish rock band The Midnight Preachers released their new single titled “Pusher Woman” to all digital outlets via The Label Group/INgrooves. The band also released the official music video for the single that was drawn by the band’s very own Emer McLaughlin on her iPad.
He had a chance to ask as few questions to get to know the band and see what new is happening..Check out he interview below.
Answered by Eoghan + Emere
Tell us a little bit about the band and how long you have been together for some of our readers that may not know about the band?First of all – thank you for having us! Eoghan here… I’ll be answering the questions. The band comprises of two members – myself, and Emer. We’ve been together since 2016. We both write, play, record, produce etc… Emer does a lot of our artwork (including animating our video for Pusher Woman) while I do most of the mixing, producing etc. We’re based in the northwest of Ireland. 🙂
What got you into music and what keeps you going night after night playing?
Inspiration came from bands we idolised… Queen, The Rolling Stones, Skynyrd… What keeps us going is definitely the thrill of the live show and the audience participation – acting as the other band member so to speak. It’s different every night.
So, what is new with the band?..New Album out? New Videos?
‘Pusher Woman’ our latest single is out August 14, and can be streamed in all the usual places. Our music video will also go live that day and will be on YouTube. Following that, we’ll be releasing our debut EP ‘Desert Hymns’ in the next few months, so keep an eye out for that. We’re on social media – www.facebook.com/themidnightpreachers / instagram @TheMidnightPreachers
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing right now?
Emer would be a full time artist, and I would try to be a voice actor.
What is the weirdest or funniest question you have ever been asked?
Good question… I have absolutely no idea. Drawing a blank. Hopefully you and I will meet again – Ask me this again on down the line, and by that stage, I’ll hopefully have an answer. 🙂
If you can have your fans remember you for one thing, what would that be?
Just doing my own thing
On a scale of one to 2593, How good is your new single compared to your last single? (my attempt at humor, but please still answer)
What do you feel is the best song you have released to date and why?
Each has their own uniqueness… but we’re excited about Pusher Woman. It’s a real rocker. 🙂
Do you think you can get any better as a musician/singer? And if so, How would you achieve that?
Every day we learn something new. Hoping to always remain open to educating myself… we never stop learning.
If you could give your fans one random fact about you that you think they should (or should “not” know) about you what would that be?
I’m a huge fan of Impossible Burgers… if you see me on the street, don’t hesitate to throw one at me…
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Candy apple red, because it’s a fantastic colour 🙂
Who are you inspired by?
Musically, people like Shawn Lane, Bumblefoot… I listen and play a lot of Romantic period music like Chopin, Satie, Debussy… Outside of music, I read a lot. Enjoying John Cleese’s Autobiography at the moment – well worth a read…
What’s an average day like for you?
Well… given the pandemic and current circumstances, the garden has never been so freshly manicured, the house has never been so clean…. Apart from all that, I usually try to get some music into every day. And exercise. Cycling etc. I’ve also been growing tomatoes. I have about 200. They taste incredible.
Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans?
We love sitting and talking with people after shows. It’s great to get up close and personal with people that support us. We really appreciate it.
Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?
Yes! I’ve been fortunate enough to have performed with some well known musicians and all I have to say is that it does get easier if you work with it. It’s coming along with you in the car whether you like it or not, but it doesn’t get to drive…
Tell me about your favorite performance venues?
My favourite performance venue was a local venue to me called The Plaza. It was a ballroom, built in the 1940s. We actually recorded the EP in there… we got great big boomy drum sounds in the middle of the dance floor. Unfortunately, not too long after, a fire destroyed the building. Thankfully nobody was hurt.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Anyone who has ever made it was just like you. We’re all humans. It’s possible for all of us.
In closing, I’d just like to thank you for the support. Hope your family is safe and well.
“Pusher Woman” was written by Eoghan MacSheain & Emer McLaughlin, produced by John Henry and mixed/mastered by Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Sons Of Apollo, Asia, Guns N Roses).
Formed in the north-west of Ireland in late 2017, The Midnight Preachers blasted onto the Irish music scene with a distinctive hard rock sound. Avoiding the modern trappings of overexposure on social media, the band’s approach is to leave more to the imagination of the listener, and to make the music their priority. Featuring rich vocal harmonies, Fender Rhodes piano and classic rock style riffs, their first single “California” debuted at #2 on iTunes in Ireland, on New Years Day 2018.
Following an Irish tour which culminated in a headline show with legendary guitar player Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal (solo artist / ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist), The Midnight Preachers returned to the studio, recording their upcoming debut EP Desert Hymns.
