IGNITE MUSIC MAGAZINE Interview with Hold On Hollywood

Corey – Hey, I’m Corey and I play bass in Hold On Hollywood! We’re a rock band from Houston, Texas right here in the USA. There’s Ian, our singer/rhythm guitarist, Nick, our lead guitarist/back-up vocalist, and Devin, our drummer extraordinaire! We’ve been together now for 5 years and have done some crazy things in that time like playing with Bon Jovi at our hometown’s Toyota Center, landed our song “The Chase” on the radio, played alongside so many more of our idols and headlined shows we could have only ever dreamed of just a few years ago! We like to play music that has a fun vibe to it and you can relate to. We all bring different influences to the table and we like to think that means there is something for everyone in our music.

What got you into music and what keeps you going night after night playing?

Corey – I got kicked out of my parent’s house at 18 and went to a house party. I learned how to play bass there because a friend wanted me to jam with them and fell in love with it!

The fans and the love they show us keeps me going! It’s a truly unstoppable force!

So, what is new with the band? New Album out? New Videos?

Corey – Our new EP “Love Stories” dropped on Valentine’s Day! And just recently we released the music video for our lead single “MOVIES”!!!

If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing right now?

Corey – For sure I’d be a chef! I went to Culinary School because of my love for food!

What is the weirdest or funniest question you have ever been asked?

Corey – Honestly, there’s waaaaay too many to list… Some naughty, some just downright crazy!

If you can have your fans remember you for one thing, what would that be?

Corey – My undying love for my fans and my Mohawk or red converse!

On a scale of one to 2593, how good is your new single compared to your last single? (My attempt at humor, but please still answer)

Corey – 2,367,368 times better in my opinion! It’s super fun, grooves right, and it’s suuuuuuper danceable!!!!

What do you feel is the best song you have released to date and why?

Corey – No matter what I will always and forever love our song “Save Me”…. it’s full of emotion and tells a story that many have felt before!

Do you think you can get any better as a musician/singer? And if so, how would you achieve that?

Corey – Yeah, always! I definitely need to practice more! Haha

If you could give your fans one random fact about you that you think they should (or should “not” know) about you what would that be?

Corey – I’m adopted! My life is a rollercoaster of crazy stuff!

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Corey – Hawaiian Luau Orange, because at a luau everyone gets laid!

Who are you inspired by?

Corey – Les Claypool, Jaco Pastorius, Krist Novoselic.

What’s an average day like for you?

Corey – I have no average days… I live a life of chaos!

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans.

Corey – I always hang in the crowd before and after shows! Its waaaay more fun that way!

Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?

Corey – What kind of performance anxiety? Hahaha, just kidding. Really, only ever had it on my very first show ever! After that it’s been fun and exciting, but not really anxiety driven.

Tell me about your favorite performance venues.

Corey – Toyota Center and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion are my faves that we have played! They hold thousands of people and that is my ultimate dream!

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Corey – If you’re gonna do it… NEVER GIVE UP! No matter how hard it gets, no matter how defeated you feel… NEVER ever, ever, ever give up.
