New Interview~NeverWake's Bassist 'Geo' Talks To Ignite About New EP and New Video For "Call Out My Name"!!

NeverWake’s sound is a dark take on active hard rock. It’s a sinew of rock and metal elements complete with captivating melodies, dark guitar harmonies, and head-banging grooves. Their melodic vocals pull the listener into a haunting trance which is then awakened with explosive guitar work over a strong foundational bass and powerful drum performances. NeverWake consists of Johnny DiCarlo on lead vocals/lead guitar, Marcus Giannamore on drums/vocals, George Scott on bass guitar/vocals and Justin Sanford lead guitar/vocals.

NeverWake’s notoriety is increasing internationally as they have achieved feats such as performing at the Loudest Month festival Carolina Rebellion, at the Heart of Texas Rockfest-SXSW in Austin TX, Rockfest WI, along with countless other national acts across the US.

Geo (George Scott) bass player from NeverWake was kind enough to answer a few questions about the band and him.

Tell us a little bit about the band and how long you have been together for some of our readers that may not know about the band?

We formed back in 2009 it was myself (Geo), Johnny, Marcus and our old guitar player James. We stuck with that lineup for a demo, and 2 full length albums “Vitality” and “SleepWalker”. We actually met our current guitarist Justin by
playing a show with his former band in Pittsburgh back in I wanna say like 2012 or 13? At the time we had no idea that a couple years down the road we were going to try and recruit him for NeverWake. As the story shows though it all
worked out and we couldn’t be happier!

What got you into music and what keeps you going night after night playing?

For me personally (Geo) I grew up listening to whatever my dad or my older brother listened to. Luckily for me that was basically a bunch of heavy music or guitar driven music. So slowly but surely I became fascinated with learning
how to play any lead or any part of a song on guitar. I just love the rush of going out there and giving everything you have for the people who are watching you, and honestly I can’t imagine not playing music.

So, what is new with the band?..New Album out? New Videos?

Currently we just dropped a new music video for our song “Call Out My Name“. We are going to be following that up with the release of our new EP “Misguided“. And you better believe we are already working on material for after that.

If you didn’t become a musician, what would you  be doing right now?

I (Geo) am a Carpenter by trade, so I guess I would be focusing more on that. Definitely some form of trade.

What is the weirdest or funniest question you have ever been asked?

Probably that cop on the last tour that asked us “Do you know how long you’ve been dragging that gas hose down the highway?”

If you can have your fans remember you for one thing, what would that be?

I would like our fans to remember us for our music obviously but I just want to be in that category of such an amazing stage show that people remember it long after they went to our concert.

On a scale of one to 2593, How good is your new single compared to your last single? (my attempt at humor, but please still answer)

I like to think that each release we do gets better and better. So I’m always going to say it’s the best….yet. I feel that every song on this upcoming EP is strong in its own way and I’m very excited to finally get it into everyones
hands. To answewr your question though, I’d say 2593.

What do you feel is the best song you have released to date and why?

As of right now I’m (Geo) still really into “Call Out My Name”. I feel like that song has really showed how we mesh as a band and how we’ve evolved over the years.

Do you think you can get any better as a musician/singer? And if so, How would you achieve that?

Absolutely. No matter how good you think you are there’s always someone out there thats miles ahead of you. You just have to be familiar with your instrument and constatly watch people that you personally look up to.

If you could give your fans one random fact about you that you think they should (or should “not” know) about you what would that be?

Johnny is actually my brother-in-law

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Who are you inspired by?

Anyone who has self made success, if they can wake up everyday and do something they genuinely enjoy while making a living.

What’s an average day like for you?

I have a wife and 2 kids, and as I mentioned earlier I’m a carpenter. When we aren’t on the road I’m usually at home working on a project or at work. If im not doing that I’m usually just hanging out with my family.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans?

I personally enjoy talking to as many of them as I can. We like including our fans in everything we do, we try to post as much as we can when something is going on and I love hearing what everyone thinks when we do release something.

Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?

Every single show. No matter how many times you go out there and play a show I think its normal to have a little anxiety before you hit the stage. I’m usually fine as soon as I step foot on stage though.

Tell me about your favorite performance venues?

When we played Carolina Rebellion back in 2015 I want to say. That was our first real taste of playing a massive festival and they treated us like we were a headliner. It was just one of the best experiences we’ve had as a band at that point and it was the “Oh shit” moment where we knew that’s exactly what we wanted to do all of the time with this band.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

I’f you’re going out there to expect overnight success and instant fame, you’re in it for the wrong reason. You have to LOVE what you’re doing and be willing to sacrifice all you can to get to the point you want to be at.
I’m not saying it’s never happened where a band comes out of nowhere and blows up but there’s so many bands out there trying to do the same thing you have to stand out and be willing to go the extra mile to draw attention to yourself.
