After the release of her original song in 2017 “Masterpiece” featuring pop sensation Jacob Whitesides, is the perfect display of Caroline’s soulful songwriting and powerful vocals is a major milestone in Romano’s young career.
While the song is Romano’s first collaboration with a marquee artist, she has shared the stage with an impressive resume of others, including Daya, Shawn Mendes, Kelsea Ballerini, and Whitesides.
Romano is a breath of fresh air and is forging a path of her own in the industry.
IMM: Hi Caroline, thanks for answering some questions. First at what age you began singing and wanted to be a singer? Do you play any instruments and had formal training? What music genres your parents listen to and your influences? And your parents fully supporting you in this tough industry?
CR: Hi, thanks for having me! My parents have always told me that I’ve pretty much been singing as long as I’ve been able to talk! Singing and having a career as an artist have always been my main goal. I remember watching Hannah Montana when I was younger and dreaming of one day singing songs of my own to a crowd. For me, performing is something that comes as naturally as taking a breath. I play both guitar and piano. I started taking guitar lessons when I was around 8 or 9, and I picked up the piano a few years ago. I haven’t had much formal training when it comes to my voice, just a few lessons here and there. I remember my parents listening to a lot of Shania Twain, Bryan Adams and Christina Aguilera, although they’ve always had a pretty diverse taste in music. Some of my biggest influences include Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran. My parents are my biggest supporters, and they believe in me 100%. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. They have had my back through the thick and thin, and they want me to succeed in this industry more than anything. I am so blessed to have their support!
IMM: During 2017 and 2018 you have released three songs and videos: “Ready”, “Masterpiece” with Jacob Whiteside and “Come With Me”. Are these songs you wrote yourself and with other songwriters/musicians?
CR: Although I do write a lot of my songs by myself, I wrote all three of those songs during co-writes in Nashville. I really enjoy co-writes, because I find that they push me out of my comfort zone and offer different perspectives and ideas to the song being written.
IMM: The one stands out is “Masterpiece” because of the arraignment that is not a pop or dance sound that can be played on Adult Alternative radio or a mix that is not dance oriented yet with rock, blues and Top 40 formats as example. Also reference to Florence And The Machine, London Grammar and Of Monsters and Men and Silver Sun Pickups. You wrote a song called “Inside” about body shaming and performed it on HLN network. And partner with PACER organization for bullying. Talk about that and are you opening to have to the song as anthem and have it released for others to hear?
CR: I am 100% open to having “Inside” as an anthem for others to hear! The main reason I felt the need to write a song of that nature was to share my experience with others, in hopes that they won’t go through these tough experiences alone. The main message of “Inside” is that it doesn’t matter how you look or what other people think about you. You are unique on the inside, and that’s what really counts. I believe this pertains not only to body image, but to any situation in life where you need to go your own way, without worrying about the opinions of others.
IMM: Currently, are you working on songs for a album and talking to several record labels?
CR: I have been working very hard on creating new music to release! An album is definitely in the works for the future, and I’m very excited to share this new music with everyone. Although talking to record labels is not something I’m involved in right now, it’s definitely something I hope to do in the near future!
IMM: And with performing, are you staying local or to travel while still finishing up high school?
CR: I began homeschooling this year, simply so I can dedicate all of my time to furthering my career, which includes traveling for performances! I hope to reach as many people as possible this year through my music, so that definitely involves performing all around!
IMM: Can’t say where the opportunities will be asked or offered from but are you open to expanding into different areas such as theater, acting and other businesses that you have interests and that might not include entertainment?
CR: Down the line, I’d definitely be interested in expanding to other areas, such as acting and music-related business. I feel that I’d want to be a bit more established in my career as an artist, but it’s something I can see myself doing in the future. However, I don’t think I could ever be involved in a project that isn’t entertainment-related in some way. I love it too much to do anything else!
IMM: Thanks for your time and success with your music and other opportunities.CR: Thank you so much for chatting with me!
