Album Review- Tantric ~Mercury Retrograde ~ Out 10/5

Tantric originally hails from Louisville, Kentucky. Over the years, founding vocalist Hugo Ferreria remains a constant creative force in the group. In 2013, Tantric signed with its current record label, Pavement Entertainment. Their discography includes: Tantric (2001), After We Go (2004), The End Begins (2008), Mind Control (2009), 37 Channels (2013), and Blue Room Archives (2014).

Tantric is a career band at the peak of its powers. While there’s diversity within and among the records, the signature Ferreira vocals and sensibilities always shine through. As he says, “I consider Tantric a boat that I float in—it’s a vessel that carries the music. So I never feel restrictions. It doesn’t have any rules. Tantric music can be super-heavy, light—or both It’s really an open book with no ending in sight.”

Tantric has outdone themselves with Mercury Retrograde. This album is solid through and through. It is Tantric at its best!!. The album starts off with a hard-hitting song “Angy“, that gets your blood flowing, and flows into “Tether“. A song that everyone can relate to, a song about releasing thing that are holding you down and you just have to release them to feel better. Another song that is classic Tantric is “Before You Could Crowl“, It a little slow paced song that you can just kick back to, listen to the lyrics and music. “Lie Awake” is one of my favorites off the album, Hugo distinct voice rings through this one, and have a nice flow. Troy, Jaron, and Sabastian really sound solid musically and are as tight as ever instrumentally. I just can’t wait to see what they sound like live!! I have a feeling it is going to magical!

A few more notable songs that resonate are “My Forever” is a nice ballad that is going to get a lot of buzz. “Letting go” is a hard-hitting one that is also one that Tantric fans will enjoy!!
