When It comes to country music you either love it or hate it. There doesn’t seem to be a middle ground. For those of us who grew up in the South, we love it and can’t quite grasp how anyone couldn’t. Being raised in Tennessee, it goes right along with loving God, sweet tea, and the SEC. I was so excited to be able to capture and write about last night’s concert with Brad Paisley and his opening act, Chase Bryant.
Chase Bryant is no stranger to the country crooning world. His grandfather, Jimmy Bryant performed with the legends, Roy Orbison and Waylon Jennings. And when you listen to him play the guitar and sing, you can find some of that old-school rock that seems to have faded away in this generation. In 2015 he burst on to the scene with the song “Take it on Back” and he’s been on the radio ever since. Known for the guy with the “incredible hair” he doesn’t lack when it comes to female fans.
He opens the show up with one strum of the guitar to a complete acoustic rock moment where he belts out in the song “Yeah, see how we’re doing tonight down here in Saint Augustine, Florida baby,” and the crowd immediately knows they are in for a treat!
Between doing some of the best renditions of John Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses” to the Florida favorite, Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin”, he has a way of bringing my generations folks back to their adolescent for the night. But what might be the part of the night that made us all know how much we liked him, is that he’s the true Americana boy we like hearing from. As he asks all those who have served to stand up and reminds us that we are all here because of them and others who currently serve this country, he tells the crowd “If you don’t respect these men and women, come up here to the side stage so I can happily escort your ass out of here!” The crowd of applause and cheers makes you love this Southern born and bred guy if you didn’t already before.
I can’t wait to see more from this younger artist, as there is no doubt that soon he will be headlining his own show, and I for one will be there.
