Before the confusion sets in about this record, for the record, consider the entire marketing and theme with this storytelling album to go hand in hand with one another. Jonas “Kungen” Jarlsby either has some interesting photos of the other band members or no one else wanted to volunteer to be the “King” for this Operation: Mindcrime meets Antichrist Superstar with a splash of carnival sideshow creation from the Göteborg, Sweden, fellows where, “whether somebody gets their rocks off listening to Satyricon or System of a Down, they’ll find something suitably deranged here.”
Avatar – “A Statue Of The King”

The video for “A Statue Of The King” is a perfect reflection of the band and its energy and style and not far off from a live show if they could get a bigger insurance policy for the next tour. We loved the changes in “King’s Harvest” with the tempos and vocal styling throughout the song. Alfredsson’s drums get your head moving from the first kick. Eckerström goes from tortured soul to sad, soulful demented clown and back again without losing the energy this offering has from beginning to end.
The Avant-garde guitar play on “The King Wants You,” is delicious to listen to. With Sandelin’s bass play, it adds the perfect balance to the song’s groove, which is not by any means over played. Sandelin with Kungen and Öhrström are well oiled parts of the Avatar sound and compliment each other nicely. The small spritz of cowbell only helps, in our fine opinion.
And least we forget to mention the fact, we have a decent idea that the good fellows will be busy after the holiday season is over. As a statement for the band entailed, “The King and His Band will go on a series of state visits all over the world this winter and spring with honorary citizens, The Brains, and sideshow extraordinaire, Hellzapoppin. Patriots may remember Hellzapoppin from the King’s 2012 music video for their single “Black Waltz.” North American dates will kick off in Columbus, OH on January 06, 2018 at the Newport Music Hall and stretch coast-to-coast before coming to a theatrical close at The Intersection in Grand Rapids. European dates start in Utrecht, Netherlands on March 13, 2018 and will be concluded in Avatar Country twin city Gothenburg, Sweden on April 7, 2018.”
If you’ve been a fan, if you’ve seen them live and loved the show, or you’re really into gasoline drinking clowns after the reboot of IT, grab this latest effort from the “King”. As a side note, if you want to hear a spot on AC/DC scream of sorts by Johannes, check out “The King Welcomes You to Avatar Country” and tell us we’re not crazy. Or, maybe we are. The hours are long at the office bringing you the best in new rock and metal afterall.
