Julia – Vocals/Acoustic/Electric
Kristian – Lead Guitar/Bass
Will – Drums

South London three-piece SYKES make alternative pop that blends upbeat guitar music with infectious pop melodies and soft female vocals.

Their 2013 self-released “Out Of Your hands EP” (produced by Cam Blackwood) was followed by a string of live dates throughout 2013 and early 2014 including big festivals such as Glastonbury and Bestival, tour support to The Wombats, Ryan Keen and American Hi Fi, as well playing their own shows in London venues including Ronnie Scotts, The Lexington, 100 club, Scala and National History Museum. Over in the US, SYKES were invited to showcase their music in various venues around Florida (Revolution Live). The band were then championed by Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman who invited them to play on the UK leg of Vans Warped Tour at Alexandra Palace.

Ignite was lucky enough to have Julia, Kristian, and Will answer a few questions about what it is like to be heading out on The Vans Warped Tour this summer..and much More !

What does it mean to you and the band to be playing Vans Warped Tour this year ?

Julia:  We’re incredibly excited to be playing – none of us have actually been to a Warped Tour before so we’re looking forward to getting the full experience!

Will:  It’s going to be SO HOT.  Bring it on!

What or Who are you most excited to see on the tour this year ?

Kris:  We can’t wait to see Sum 41, Good Charlotte, the UK bands out there and it’ll be great to catch up with a couple of bands we toured with back in the UK – The Summer Set and Against The Current!

If you had your pick..What would be your favorite song to play on stage?..And Why?

J:  Bohemian Rhapsody, easy peasy!

If you would have had the chance to write any song, what song would it be? (It could be any song that has been recorded).

W:  Happy Birthday. 🙂

If you had anything to change in the music industry what would it be,and how would you change it if you have a chance to do it?

K:  We haven’t had too many experiences deep within the industry as we’ve done most of what we’ve achieved so far by ourselves.  We have found occasionally we’ve hit a wall mainly to do with the pull that big entities have but we love retaining complete creative control over what we do.

Name one group that you would want to do your farewell tour with?

J:  Wohhh we’re only just getting started!  We’ll happily accompany Muse on their farewell tour if they ever did one…

Name one song that you would like to be known for the most?

W:  Our new tunes coming out soon!

What is the best thing about tour you like..and what is the worst?

J:  The best thing about tour is being able to play live everyday !  It’s just so much fun.  The worst… I’ll let you know after this monster of a tour haha, it’s definitely the longest one we’ve ever done.

Why do you think the Vans Warped Tour has been such a success over the many years it has been going on?

J:  I’m pretty sure it has to do with the passion Kevin Lyman has towards music and helping bands out.  Sounds like everyone on the tour becomes a bit of a family and that spirit definitely translates to the fans.

Thank to all three of you for taking the time to give us a little insight about you and the band SYKES, We hope that everyone goes out and checks you guys out in their stop at the Vans Warped Tour this Summer,
