St. Augustine, Fla. (February 8, 2016) – Progressive rock icons Styx will return to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre with special guests .38 Special and The Outlaws on Saturday, May 14, 2016. Styx previously performed to a sold-out crowd at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on May 23, 2014. Tickets for Styx with special guests .38 Special and The Outlaws will go on sale this Friday, February 12 at 10 a.m.
The six men comprising Styx have committed to “Rockin’ the Paradise” together with audiences far and wide by entering their second decade of averaging over 100 shows a year, with each member dedicated to making the next show better than the last. The band draws from over four decades of barn burning chart hits, joyous sing-alongs and hard-driving deep cuts to do so. Like a symphony that builds to a satisfying crescendo, a Styx set covers a wide range of stylistic cornerstones. From the progressively sweeping splendor that is “The Grand Illusion” to the hunker-down fortitude of all that is the “Blue Collar Man”, from the majestic spiritual love for a special “Lady” to the poignant rumination on the fleeting nature of fame in “Miss America”, from an individual yearning for true connection as a “Man in the Wilderness” to a soul-deep quest to achieve what’s at the heart of one’s personal vision in “Crystal Ball”, from the regal reach-for-the-stars bravado of “Come Sail Away” to the grainy all-in gallop of that rugged “Renegade” who had it made. Styx have an unlimited cache of ways to immerse one’s mind and body in their signature sound and their live prowess comes through commitment, preparation and an unbending devotion to artistry.
After more than three decades together; Jacksonville’s own .38 Special continue to bring their signature blast of Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year. At each and every show, thousands of audience members are amazed by the explosive power of the band’s performance. Their many gold and platinum album awards stand in testament to the endurance of a legendary powerhouse. With sales in excess of 20 million, most associate the band with their arena-rock pop smashes, “Hold On Loosely”,“Rockin’ Into the Night”, ”Caught Up in You”, “Fantasy Girl”, “If I’d Been the One”, “Back Where You Belong”, “Chain Lightnin’”, “Second Chance” and more, timeless hits that remain a staple at radio, immediately recognizable from the first opening chord and paving the way to their present-day touring regimen.
Formed in Tampa in 1972, The Outlaws – known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies – became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie VanZant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums The Outlaws, Lady In Waiting and Hurry Sundown – featuring such rock radio favorites as “There Goes Another Love Song”, “Green Grass & High Tides”, “Knoxville Girl” and “Freeborn Man” – would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as “The Florida Guitar Army” by their fans, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones. Now The Outlaws return with new music, new focus and an uncompromising new mission: It’s about a band of brothers bound together by history, harmony and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by its past. But most of all, it’s about pride.
