(Jacksonville, Fla.) August 4, 2015 – Following a record number of events and ticket sales for the first half of 2015 at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, Venues Today magazine ranked Jacksonville’s venue first in the United States in both attendance and gross ticket sales of venues with 10,001-15,000 seats. Additionally, the ranking places the arena third in the world by attendance and sixth in the world by ticket sales gross in the same size category.
2015 has continued the Arena’s solid run of world-class sports, entertainment and cultural events, solidified by the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament second & third rounds in March. In addition to hosting reoccurring sporting events for the Jacksonville Sharks and Giants Basketball, other notable bookings for the first half of 2015 included Elton John, two Kevin Hart shows, WinterJam, The Who, Journey & Steve Miller Band, Nitro Circus Live, Profession Bull Riding, Bill Gaither Homecoming, Circus, WWE, Disney on Ice, Bill Graham Crusade, Harlem Globetrotters, Jehovah’s Witnesses conferences and more.
Looking ahead, the second half of 2015 brings Tim McGraw to the Arena on August 20, followed by Luke Bryan, Def Leppard featuring Foreigner, NBA in JAX – Atlanta Hawks vs. New Orleans Pelicans, Chris Tomlin, Jason Aldean, Festival of Praise, TobyMac, SEC/AAC Women’s Basketball Challenge and much more.
“The Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena continues to deliver results as a premier destination for sports, entertainment and special events,” said Mayor Lenny Curry. “The Veterans Memorial Arena is an important community asset and we are proud of its success and more importantly its bright future.”
This new ranking comes on the heels of the annual attendance record that was set at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in 2014. That year, the Arena surpassed 2004’s inaugural year total of 518,000 with a record setting attendance of over 550,000. The 2016 slate promises to be strong as well, with Janet Jackson in March and Feld Entertainment’s Marvel Universe Live (April) already on sale.
“The recent Venues Today mid-year report further validates the energy and momentum that is building here in Jacksonville around entertainment and sports,” said Bill McConnell, general manager for SMG Jacksonville. “As the City of Jacksonville’s partner tasked with maximum utilization of public access facilities, we work hard every day to ensure diverse entertainment offerings. Jacksonville continues to validate itself as a viable entertainment market and SMG is energized to work with Mayor Curry and his staff as an integral part of the City of Jacksonville’s vision of ensuring a vibrant downtown. We look forward to a strong finish to 2015!”
