X102.9 PRESENTS LEGENDARY SKA-PUNK BAND SUBLIME WITH ROME AND SPECIAL GUESTS REBELUTION, PEPPER AND MICKEY AVALON AT THE ST. AUGUSTINE AMPHITHEATRE SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2015

St. Augustine, Fla. (April 13, 2015) – X102.9 Jacksonville’s New Alternative presents Sublime with Rome and special guests Rebelution, Pepper and Mickey Avalon live at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, August 16, 2015. Tickets will go on sale to the general public Monday, April 20 at 10 a.m.

Sublime With Rome has just announced the dates for their biggest North American tour to date which includes a stop at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, August 16. Rebelution, Pepper and Mickey Avalon will be joining Sublime With Rome on this trek across the U.S.

Sublime With Rome features original Sublime bassist Eric Wilson, vocalist and guitarist Rome and drummer Josh Freese, who officially joined the band in 2012. Over 20 years after forming legendary ska-punk band Sublime, band co-found/bass player Eric Wilson met another singer/guitarist that would deeply affect his life. That musician was 20-year-old Rome Ramirez. In Wilson’s own words, “this kid could play guitar like a mofo and he’s got a platinum voice.” Incidentally, Wilson had previously reserved that same description for his former Sublime band mate, the late Bradley Nowell.

Formed in Long Beach, California in 1988, Sublime delivered an irresistible blend of ska, reggae, punk, surf rock, and hip-hop that captured the imagination of fans around the world. Over the course of its three albums – 1992’s double-platinum 40oz. to Freedom, 1994’s gold Robbin’ the Hood, and 1996’s 6x-platinum self-titled major-label debut – the band has now sold more than 17 million albums worldwide. Nowell died of a heroin overdose two months prior to the release of Sublime, which reached No. 13 on the Billboard Top 200, sold six million copies, and spawned such hits as “What I Got,” “Santeria,” and “Wrong Way,” which remain radio staples across the country. Profoundly affected by Nowell’s death, Wilson never considered performing the group’s music live without their front man. It took the talent and enthusiasm of Rome Ramirez – a genial, now 26-year-old newcomer and gifted songwriter and musician – to change that.

Growing up in the Bay Area, Rome began singing and writing songs as a teenager and was playing solo gigs around the Bay Area when he met Wilson when the two were recording at the same studio. An instant friendship and musical bond was formed and that Fall, Sublime With Rome entered the studio to begin recording their debut album. The result was Yours Truly, released in the summer of 2011. The album both picked up where Sublime left off and built on what they’ve accomplished, thanks to the fresh infusion of energy from Rome who brought in lyrics, melodies, and chords he’d written over the past few years. With the release of Yours Truly, Sublime With Rome spent the rest of the year touring the world and treating fans to both new songs as well as Sublime favorites that many never had a chance to hear live. Bringing things full circle, the band’s first performance of 2012 was at the Smokeout Festival, joined by celebrated drummer and longtime friend Josh Freese. Sublime With Rome has recently finished tracking a brand new album that follows their 2011 debut Yours Truly. A summer 2015 release is planned with more details and pre-order information to be announced shortly.

Originally formed in Santa Barbara, CA in 2004, Rebelution’ s strong DIY mentality, relentless touring and deep connection to their fan base via social media, has led them to being one of the best-selling reggae artists on the planet. Since the 2007 release of Courage to Grow, the band’s first full-length album, Rebelution’ s music has been praised for its crafty melodies, socially-conscious lyrics and savvy musicianship. Courage to Grow was selected as the iTunes Editor’s Choice for Best Reggae Album, went to #4 on Billboard’s Reggae charts. Bright Side of Life, the band’s second album (2009), took the #1 spot on iTunes in the Reggae music genre, charted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Reggae Albums, and #54 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums charts. With the band’s 2012 album having debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Reggae and Independent charts, and at #13 on the Top 200 Albums chart, Rebelution followed up with Count Me In, their fourth full-length release.

Although Pepper‘s members are originally from Kona, Hawaii, the trio doesn’t play traditional Hawaiian music. Rather, Pepper’s music is a melodic and accessible blend of alternative pop/rock, punk, and reggae. Formed in 1996, Pepper is hardly the only alt-rock combo inspired by Jamaican sounds. Since the band’s formation they have released five studio albums as well as one live album.

Mickey Avalon’s life story plays out like an episode of VH-1’s “Behind the Music”, marred by personal tragedy, triumphs and immense pain. Using his life experiences as fuel for intense rhymes, Avalon’s contagious demeanor and unique writing style has made him a hot commodity in the music industry. Hip-hop artist Young Jeezy and produced Jermaine Dupri jumped at the chance to collaborate with him for a Boost Mobile commercial, the Happy Mondays and Unwritten Law co-wrote “Shoulda Known Better” with Avalon, his music has been featured in countless movies and TV series and Avalon has performed sold-out shows alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg and Stephen Marley.
