Matt– Lets start off the interview with the best question we can ask for those people who have not heard of your band,..So, First off..Can you tell our readers a little bit about TAUK and the music you play and where your musical influences come from?
TAUK is a four piece instrumental rock band consisting of myself (Matt Jalbert) on guitar, Alric Carter (AC) on keyboards, Charlie Dolan on bass, and Isaac Teel on drums. AC, Charlie, and I have been playing music together since we were in seventh grade. We’ve been playing with this lineup for almost three years now. Our music has a lot of different influences, but we are always trying to put emphasis on strong melodies and groove.
I see the new LP Collision has been out since July 22nd, with rave reviews. How does that make you feel knowing all the work you put into recorder has been paying off?
It feels great when people tell us how much they enjoy listening to our music. But more than anything it just makes us want to step it up more and more. This album has been out for a while now and we’ve been playing the songs off of it live at a lot of shows. Now we’re thinking ahead and starting to write new music and see what the next step is.– The new songs “MindShift” and “Sweet Revenge,” off Collisions have been added into regular rotation on Sirius XM Jam On, How do you decide what songs to release
to get played on internet radio or Sirius XM, or do you have a say in it?..and why these songs?
We actually just sent the entire album to Sirius and they picked those two songs to play. Having our music played at all on Jam On has been such a great help to us because it helps get the word out to people who haven’t heard of us before. For us, they could have picked any song and we would have been pumped about it.– The Tour you are currently on is has been up and running since Oct 15th ,.Are you guys now in the groove of touring at this point in time?
This tour actually started on October 2nd, so we’ve been out over a month at this point. I think we’re definitely in the groove of touring, the shows have been really clicking especially over the last couple weeks. We’ve been covering a lot of new ground on this tour, hitting Texas and now we’re getting to play Florida for the first time. Getting into new places is always exciting because we get to make a first impression on people. It really keeps you on your toes.– This questions kinda leads in from the last question. Do you all enjoy touring?..
Do you all get along will while Touring?
We’ve known each other for such a long time that it’s really easy being in a van for weeks at a time touring with each other. Sure we’ll have arguments and get into fights, but once everybody gets some food in them things seem to work out.
And I see you do a lot of festivals though out your tours.
We played a lot of festivals this summer and have some more coming up. Festivals are so great, you get to play in front of a bunch of new faces and you get to see a lot of other music while you’re there. Plus, there’s always the potential for some cool sit ins to happen. We’re really looking forward to Bear Creek coming up.
Do you enjoy the large festivals or the the smaller clubs like the 1904 Concert Hall you will be at in Jacksonville Fl.?
They’re different. A lot of times festivals can be crazy because you have to set up so fast, play you’re set, and tear down. It all goes by so fast, but then you get to hang around and check out other music, which is great. The smaller clubs are nice because you get to really do you’re thing and it can feel more intimate. I personally don’t have a preference, one of the great aspects of touring is getting to play your music in a lot of different situations. This will be our first time at the Concert Hall, so I’m excited to see how it goes.– Is there one Festival that you go to that just really sticks out in your mind and you enjoy the most and love going to?..and Why?We’ve had so many great experiences at different festivals this summer. Mad Tea Party was great, because it had such a strong sense of family and we had some great sit ins. Lockn’ really stood out, being the biggest one and getting a chance to play in front of that many people. We had great sets at Hudson Festival, Catskill Chill, Floyd Fest. It’s tough to pick favorites because each one has it’s own vibe and different lineups.
– Is your chemistry as a band just as strong as it was when you all first stated out?
Definitely. We’ve been through a lot as a band and as friends. To see it grow and know that we’re moving forward only strengthens the chemistry.
One last question,.How long to you see yourself playing music and where do you see yourself and the band in say 5 yrs?..Ok..that was two..lol
We know that we want to do this as long as possible. As long as we keep challenging ourselves and progressing as a band. Who know’s where we’ll be in five years, but as long as the music still feels fresh and exciting, then we know we’re doing something right.
Thanks Matt, again, we really appreciate you answering our questions.
