The 1975 PLAYS TO A “SOLD OUT” SHOW AT FREEBIRD LIVE @ JACKSONVILLE BEACH FLORIDA..ALONG WITH BAD SUNS AND SIR SLY

The 1975 hit the stage running with their SOLD OUT show at Freebird Live on a hot night in Jacksonville Beach, and as we expected..we rolled up to the venue at the time the doors opened at 7pm and the line of energenic hardcore 1975 fanatics made a line around the corner and beyond to get in to the Freebird. You can tell the crowd was ready to get the show on the road, and you can feel the energy outside and as we stepped into the foggy venue.

The 1975 are on tour in support for the latest album The 1975, the band’s self-titled debut album, was released on 2 September 2013.Technically, the 1975 should probably be called the 1985, or the 2005. But the band name actually comes from a date Healy found scrawled in a book, rather than any notional affiliation with the year of Patti Smith’s Horses. They are a thoroughly “now” sort of band, putting musical eras through the internet mincer and skimming the fat off the top.During their song “Chocolate” (an obvious audience favorite), Healy let us sing portions of the song.  You could tell they were thrilled by the fan base they had in the U.S. and how well everyone knew their lyrics. They picked right back up with the chorus after the crowd participation was complete.

The Band was engaging. The crowd was appreciative. And the evening was a positive experience. Trying to beat the rush to the door, we left the venue immediately after the regular set of songs. We risked missing a strong encore. But as we headed to the car, we saw the lead vocalist (Healy) and the drummer walking toward us after they exited through a back door…. it was an unexpected bonus to the evening – telling them how great a performance they had just put on.  They seemed really appreciative to have played in  Florida again, with Healy saying the always love playing in Florida and specially Jacksonville is always a good crowd.

The night was supported by two other really energetic band, Sir Sly and Bad Sun…They seemed to complement The 1975 style as well as enthusiastic music.
